Employee Relations Officer

We are seeking a highly experienced Employee Relations Officer to provide and support West Wits Mining MLI (Pty) Ltd, ensuring compliance with labour legislation, managing workplace conflict, and promoting a fair, safe, and productive work environment aligned with operational and Mine Health and Safety Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on disciplinary processes, grievances, and dispute resolution.
- Assist with investigations into misconduct, grievances, and workplace incidents.
- Ensure procedural and substantive fairness in all ER matters.
- Assist with the maintenance of accurate ER records and case management systems.
- Labour relations management.
Union & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with unions.
- Participate in wage negotiations and consultation processes.
- Support management in handling industrial action and strike prevention.
Reporting & Analytics
- Track ER trends (e.g., absenteeism, misconduct, disputes)
- Provide monthly ER reports and insights to management.
- Recommend proactive interventions to reduce risk.
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in Employee Relations, preferably in the mining industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Industrial Psychology, Labour Law, or related field.
- Intensive experience in Employee Relations and Labour Law.
- Proven experience in union negotiations.
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of South African labour legislation.
- Knowledge of mining sector dynamics and unionised environments.
- Familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Act requirements in mining.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Resilience and the ability to work under pressure in a high-risk environment.
- Combination of office and on-site mine work.
