About the role

The Mine Manager is accountable for shaping and operationalising the safe and efficient delivery of the Qala Shallows Mine production programme. The role is primarily to lead the continuous enhancement of safety standards, optimise operational planning, scheduling, and execution, and initiate and lead various operational enhancement projects. The incumbent will be required to investigate and analyse operational effectiveness with a view to co-designing and developing collaborative and innovative solutions to optimise the interfaces between teams, processes, and systems.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or B-Tech Degree in Mining Engineering
• Mine Overseer and Mine Managers Certificate of Competency
• 2-3 years of experience in an appointed 3.1(a) Mine Manager role
• 3-5 years of senior mine management experience
• Accomplished middle and senior management track record in underground trackless development and conventional stopping
• Proven track record in safely delivering operational and mining projects.

Advantageous Requirements

• A Business Management Qualification
• Experience as an appointed MHSA 4(1) General Manager role

Chief Surveyor

About the role

This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all spatial data generated from both underground and open-pit mining environments. The Chief Surveyor will manage a team of professional surveyors and technicians, implement advanced surveying technologies, and ensure that all surveys are conducted in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This position is critical for accurate mine planning, ore reserve estimation, and operational control.

Minimum Requirements

• Matriculated or Equivalent with a bachelor’s degree in mining or Equivalent
• National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in surveying or Geomatics.
• Holder of a valid Govt Certificate of Competence – required
• Professional registration with the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) or equivalent.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mine surveying, with proven leadership capabilities.
• Extensive experience with both underground and open-pit surveying techniques and equipment.
• Proficiency in relevant surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Surpac, Deswik).
• DESWIK experience is a must
• Strong understanding of geodetic principles and coordinate systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and team management skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in demanding field conditions, including underground environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the mine surveying department, including staff supervision and performance management.
• Develop and implement survey control networks for both underground and open-pit operations. Oversee the use of advanced surveying equipment and technologies, such as total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners, and drones. Ensure accurate mapping of mine workings, boundaries, and infrastructure.
•  Collaborate closely with mine management, planners, geologists, and engineers to provide essential survey data for mine design and production.
• Conduct quality assurance and quality control of all survey data and deliverables. Maintain all survey records and ensure their accessibility and integrity.
• Stay current with new surveying techniques, software, and hardware, and recommend their adoption where appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to mine surveying. Manage the surveying budget and resource allocation effectively.
• Maintain, update, and communicate all legal and operational policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines relevant to the area of accountability
• Responsible for all survey and ore accounting and be able to report and sign off on all required survey responsibilities as Chief Surveyor.

Project Manager

About the role

The Project Manager is responsible for supporting the effective planning, coordination and delivery of West Wits Mining’s capital, infrastructure and business development projects across the full project lifecycle, including design development, procurement, execution, reporting and close-out. The role provides structured project controls, schedule oversight, cost tracking, contract coordination and governance support to ensure that workstreams remain aligned, risks and dependencies are escalated timeously, and decisions are supported by accurate, audit-ready information. Working closely with internal departments, EPCM partners, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders, the Project Manager supports the Head of Projects and Business Development in driving safe, compliant and commercially disciplined project delivery within a listed-company environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Scheduling

• Support the HOD in managing the full project lifecycle across the design, procurement, and execution phases.
• Tracking of design packages and their sub-activities against planned and actual start and end dates.
• Develop and maintain non-EPCM integrated project schedules, identify and manage critical-path items; mitigate and proactively escalate dependencies and slippage in a timely manner.
• Review EPCM integrated project schedule including critical-path items, mitigate and proactively escalate dependencies and slippage in a timely manner.
• Coordinate the interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams to keep deliverables aligned.

Cost & Contract Management

• Develop and control project budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and scenario-based allocations, reporting variances with clear narratives.
• Collaborate with EPCM Cost Controller for EPCM scope.
• With support from appointed Quantity Surveyors, administer supplier and EPCM contracts, monitor contract compliance, review supply and service agreements, and manage scope, variations, and claims.

Regulatory & Environmental Compliance

• Through collaboration with Corporate Affairs team,
  • ensure projects comply with South African regulatory requirements
  • support environmental compliance obligations

Governance, Risk & Reporting

• Prepare project status reports, RAG dashboards, risk registers, and decision papers for EXCO and board-level review using company templates.
• Maintain project governance documentation and ensure a clear, auditable trail for all key decisions and approvals.

Stakeholder & Team Management

• Engage internal and external stakeholders, including EPCM partners, contractors, communities, and regulators.
• Supervise and mentor coordinators, interns, and vacation-work students, building structured development across workstreams.

Business Development Support

• Assist the Head of Projects and Business Development with feasibility inputs, options studies, and the evaluation of new project and growth opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Quantity Surveying, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience, preferably in mining, industrial or infrastructure environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary capital projects.
• Working knowledge of the South African environmental and regulatory frameworks relevant to mining and infrastructure

Skills & Competencies

• Strong scheduling and cost-control capability, including proficiency in MS Project, Excel, SharePoint, and reporting / dashboarding tools.
• Sound contract and risk management competence.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce management- and audit-ready documentation.

To lead and supervise a mining production team in achieving daily operational targets safely, efficiently, and within budget. The role ensures that production processes comply with statutory, regulatory, and organisational standards while fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
