About the role

A Mechanical Foreman oversees the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and safely while managing a team of technicians.

Key Performance Areas

Underground OperationsMaintenance of shaft systems, equipment, and drills.
Mobile EquipmentSupervision of repairs on Dump trucks, LHD, UV,and drill rigs.
Workshops & FabricationManagement of mechanical workshops, welding, and fabrication tasks.
Utilities & InfrastructureMaintenance of water pumps, pipelines, compressors, and HVAC systems.

Education/Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Grade 12 + N4-N6 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • Trade Certification: Red Seal (Fitter, Millwright, or Boilermaker)
  • Experience: 5+ years in mining maintenance; 3+ years in a supervisory role
  • Skills: ERP systems (SAP/Pragma), blueprint reading, fault diagnostics
  • Compliance: Valid First Aid Certificate, Medical Fitness, and Safety Training

Areas of Responsibility

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Oversee maintenance of mechanical systems including underground machinery (LHD,UV and Drill Rigs, pumps and ventilation fans.
  • Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to restore equipment functionality.

Team Supervision

  • Lead a team of fitters, millwrights, and technicians.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Develop and execute maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and service history.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce Mine Health and Safety Act regulations and company safety protocols.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work practices during mechanical interventions.

Project Support

  • Assist in commissioning new equipment and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on mechanical design improvements.

Reporting Line

Reports directly to the GES

Work Environment

For both the underground environment and the surface in the mining industry.

Electrical Foreman

About the role

To oversee and coordinate all electrical maintenance and installation activities, ensuring optimal equipment performance, safety compliance, and minimal downtime across mining operations.

Key Performance Areas

  • Maintenance of electrical systems in shafts, tunnels, and haulage ways
  • Supervision of power distribution for drilling rigs, ventilation fans, and lighting
  • Ensuring compliance with underground safety standards (e.g., flameproof equipment)
  • Enforcing lockout/tagout procedures and electrical isolation protocols
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring adherence to the Mine Health and Safety Act

Education/Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 + N4-N6 Certificate in Electrical Engineering
  • Trade Certification   Electrical Trade Test (MQA or Red Seal preferred)
  • Supervisory Training, First Line Supervision Certificate or equivalent
  • Experience    4+ years in mining maintenance; 3+ years in a supervisory role
  • Technical Skills Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, and diagnostic tools
  • Compliance Knowledge     Familiar with ISO standards, environmental procedures, and HT switching

  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, including conveyors, crushers, pumps, and substations.
  • Troubleshoot faults and implement solutions to minimise production disruptions.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all electrical work complies with the Mine Health and Safety Act and relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Enforce safe High Tension (HT) switching practices and lockout procedures.

  • Enforce Mine Health and Safety Act regulations and company safety protocols.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work practices during mechanical interventions.

Project Execution

  • Support engineering projects aimed at improving reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Assist in commissioning new equipment and infrastructure.
